Taking a break is something we all need in life and in ministry. Twice a year, that is exactly what LifeQuest offers the kids at the John Paul Taylor Center in Las Cruces. We help the youth take a break from their normal routine. We do various high energy events that include team-building games, testimonies, in-depth discussion, games and good food. It is a day that changes not only the lives of the youth but also of our volunteers:
“I remember feeling nervous and when I got into my dorm only four kids came out to see what was going on, and by the end of the night all the kids came out. Also, the kids told me that I really connected with them by how I was interacting with them. It definitely brought more trust within them because I was part of the conversations and games. If I can say something to one person, I would challenge them to go through the same experience that I did.” -Rex -volunteer mentor
Every fall we host an elegant evening at Embassy Suites, with good food, inspirational speakers, and thankfulness.
The winter brings Christmas Care Kit Sponsors. Each incarcerated youth in the state of New Mexico receives a Care Kit. The Kits cost about $20.00 each to put together. We hold a pizza party and deliver the kits to 8 facilities in Albuquerque and Las Cruces. The rest are delivered statewide by volunteers (and UPS).
